Regions of the USA Party

For the past two months, students have been learning about the Northeast, Midwest, South, and West regions of the U.S.A.  We spent time researching each region and learning about the following topics:

- Bodies of water, landforms
- cities, states, resources
- climate, weather
- plants, animals
- interesting facts

Needless to say there was a LOT of information to sift through and students had to read, analyze, and synthesize information from books, maps, and online sources.  When all the research was complete, students picked one region to create a brochure.  The goal was to entice people to visit their region.  As evident from our Regions Party, they did a great job!  Students, parents, and teachers enjoyed learning about the different regions and what they had to offer.  Each visitor voted on their favorite region.  It was a tough choice, but the MIDWEST took first place!

Here are a few pictures from the celebration...

Hi Parents and Students,

Our Regions Party last Friday in Social Studies was a success!!  It was a busy, lively event with lots of interesting facts, food, and fun.  For those of you who were wondering, the most popular region was... (drumroll, please) the MIDWEST region!   Congratulations to the Midwest team on educating our guests and thanks to ALL my students for working so hard to make it an exciting event.  (Photos coming soon)

In Science, the students have been working overtime to complete their cardboard games for this Thursday.   I have been impressed with their problem solving, teamwork, and leadership over the course of the past two weeks.
